In September 2011, John F. Smolen, FACHE, was named President and Chief Executive Officer of WMMC. John joined the Medical Center in July 2001 as Vice President of Clinical Services/Chief Operating Officer. With more than 30 years of experience, John has served in a variety of leadership capacities. Most notably, John served as Vice President of Professional Services at Saint Joseph Health Center, a 300 bed health center and Carondelet Health Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri, part of the twelve hospital Carondelet Health System; Vice President of Professional Services and Medical Staff Operations at Marian Health Center, a 556 bed health center in Sioux City, Iowa, part of the sixteen hospital Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation; Development Consultant with Columbia HCA in Kansas City, Missouri; Administrator of Internal Medicine Associates, a 42 physician, independent multi-specialty group in Omaha, Nebraska; and Executive Director of Children’s Physicians, a joint venture of a university and a private children’s hospital, employing 42 pediatricians in Omaha, Nebraska; and Assistant Administrator at Santa Rosa Medical Center, an 1,100 bed medical center in San Antonio, Texas.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Creighton University and a Master's Degree in Hospital and Healthcare Administration from Saint Louis University. He is an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow and Certified Healthcare Executive.
Dr. Misko became the Vice President of Medical Staff Services/Chief Medical Officer in May of 2008. This is the first time in the history of WMMC that a member of the medical staff has served on the Administrative Team, actively participating in the day-to-day management of the Medical Center.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Misko served as Medical Director of the Emergency Department and Chief of Emergency Services at WMMC for eight years. Dr. Misko has over 25 years of experience in clinical practice. He served in the US Air Force during his residency and for several years following. In addition to his full-time clinical duties, Dr. Misko has held numerous leadership roles including Chief of Family Practice and Chief of the Immediate Disaster Preparedness Team at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, MO; Chief of Family Practice and Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department at FE Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY; and served as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and Chairman of the Credentials Committee at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Susan became the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Western Missouri Medical Center in November 2011.
With more than 25 years of progressive experience leading and transitioning healthcare organizations, Susan has served in a variety of leadership capacities. Most notably, she served as Senior Clinical Strategist at Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, MO; Chief Nursing Officer at Centerpoint Medical Center (HCA) in Independence, MO; and Chief Nursing Officer at Menorah Medical Center (HCA) in Overland Park, KS.
Susan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO, and her Master’s in Health Care Administration and Master’s in Business Administration from Webster University in Kansas City, MO.
Mike received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. His background in healthcare engineering began in 1982, in Lander, Wyoming as the Superintendent of building a 107 bed regional medical center and a 38 bed chemical dependency/psychiatric facility.
In 1989 he moved to Powell, Wyoming to become the Director of Plant Operations at Powell Hospital and Nursing Home. He built a 100 bed nursing home and a 30 bed independent living center. Mike joined Western Missouri Medical Center in April, 2003 as the Director of Plant Services and, in 2005, was assigned the Director of Safety position as well.
Jennifer became Director of Quality/Risk Management in 2005. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Arkansas in 1995.
Her clinical experience in nursing centered on cardiac and critical care nursing. She entered the quality sector of healthcare in 2001, working as the Quality Care Coordinator at Conway Regional Medical Center. Jennifer advanced into the role of Performance Improvement Manager in 2004. She became a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality in 2004 and earned her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2005. She is a member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Dennis received a BSBA degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri with a Major in Personnel Administration. His experience includes Patient Accounts Clerk and Personnel Clerk for Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Missouri.
Dennis has served the Medical Center as Director of Human Resources since December, 1985. He has served the community as Board President of Warrensburg Day Care and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
Carol earned her Associates degree in nursing from William Raney Harper College in 1982. She began working at Western Missouri Medical Center that same year as a staff nurse.
Since that time she has held a variety of positions at the Medical Center including Director of Surgical Services, Patient Care Supervisor, Infection Control/Safety Coordinator, Clinical Information Systems Analyst, and in 1998 was selected as the Director of Information Systems. Carol received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix in 2004. She is a member of Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
