Warrensburg, MO - The Board of Trustees at Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) recently approved a $62.5 million dollar project that features the expansion and renovation of the existing facility. The project scope includes the construction of a patient tower featuring 75 private rooms, along with a variety of campus improvements.
Designed by HMN Architects Inc. of Overland Park, the project will be completed in three phases, ensuring minimal disruption to patients, visitors and staff. The expansion will consist of three separate additions totaling 117,000 square feet.
The first addition includes the construction of the three-story 105,000-square-foot bed tower located on the southwest corner of the existing facility. The second addition will create a new state-of-the-art radiology department, with the third addition including a 20,000-square-foot medical office building that will be attached to the hospital. The project also features the renovation of 10,000 square feet of existing space.
"This is a historical time for the Medical Center," says Hugh A. Hanna, M.D., Chairman of the Board. "Our growth is an indication of the enduring support from our community throughout the years."
The project, estimated for completion within three years, includes a perimeter loop road that will enhance traffic patterns and provide easier access to departments within the hospital. Additionally, parking will be expanded by approximately 200 spaces.
"Our patients and visitors asked for private patients rooms and we heard them," says Craig J. Marks, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The transformation of our medical center is yet another opportunity to enhance our services as we seek to exceed the expectations of those we serve."
Another transformation at WMMC will occur in the emergency department. After reaching an agreement with Emergency Medical Services, LLC, WMMC's emergency department will now be staffed 24 hours a day by board-certified emergency medicine physicians. In addition, advanced nurse practitioners with at least two years of emergency medicine experience will also be on staff. This will become effective in August.
"When a patient walks into our emergency department, they will receive the same level of care and services that they would receive in any Kansas City emergency department," says Craig J. Marks, President and CEO.
"We're looking forward to establishing a long-term relationship with Western Missouri Medical Center," says Mark O. Scott, D.O., MBA, Chief Operating Officer of Emergency Medical Services, LLC. "We are thrilled to be a part of this significant time of growth for the Medical Center as we continue to provide high quality care to the residents of Johnson County and the surrounding areas."
